I. Game Overview

Dawn Chorus is a healing, non-linear romance visual novel set in a remote guesthouse above the Arctic Circle. You play as Arvo, joining a scientific summer camp in snowy Norway and meeting a cast of characters whose stories unfold across choice-driven routes.

The game is under active development with monthly content updates and Patreon early access. Most personal routes are planned as 5-day story arcs, and several routes remain incomplete in current releases.

II. Playable Routes & Characters

The guide below covers known route unlocks, hidden branches, and current progress on each character path.

⚠️ Note: All personal routes are currently incomplete. Travis and Arne are not playable romance options at this time.

III. Hidden Route Unlock Guide

1. Klaus Route (Hidden)

1. Play through Bjorn's route.
2. Choose to go to the forest to search for the planet.
3. Select the option to wear warmer clothes and gather a warmer jacket.
4. Meet Klaus in the forest to trigger his hidden branch.

Alternative path through Devon:

1. Enter Devon's route.
2. Tell him the secret about the key.
3. Choose to go to the forest and then wait for him.
4. Follow Rune and Jørgen.
5. Later choose the option to follow Klaus.

2. Gudrun Route (Hidden)

1. Play Torulf's route.
2. At the intimate moment, choose to refuse intimacy with Torulf.
3. Gudrun appears and this unlocks her personal storyline.

💡 Tip: If you want to avoid Gudrun's crossover scenes in other routes, accept Torulf in his path to minimize her interruptions.

3. Jørgen Route Branch

Jørgen's route includes a special polyamorous option during the concert scene. Pay close attention to music event choices to open this branch.

4. Other Routes

Devon, Rune, Lake, Mikko, Bjorn, and Torulf routes follow standard unlock logic and can be accessed through dialogue and daily camp choices.

IV. Legacy Mode & NSFW Patch

Legacy Mode

Players who prefer the older character portraits can enable Legacy Mode using a special in-game code. Check the official game page or community posts for the current unlock code.

Some Legacy graphics may require an NSFW patch because original art variants are not fully compatible with the default SFW build.

NSFW Patch Installation

Current reports say the patch is hosted through Patreon posts and is available to download from the developer's support channels.

PC

1. Download the patch archive.
2. Extract files into the game installation folder.
3. Start the game and look for the NSFW option in settings.

Android

1. Download the patched APK.
2. If installation fails, uninstall the old version first.
3. Install the patched APK and verify the NSFW toggle appears.

⚠️ If NSFW settings do not appear after installation, reinstall carefully and confirm the patch files were placed correctly.

V. Save Management and Transfer

Dawn Chorus uses Ren'Py save files. Back up your progress before major updates or route experiments.

Windows

Save location: %APPDATA%\RenPy\DemoTest1-1585236210

Use Win + R, enter %APPDATA%\RenPy, and press Enter to find your saves.

Mac

Save location: ~/Library/RenPy/

Open Finder, press Command + Shift + G, then paste the path.

Android

Saves are usually under Documents/RenPy_Saves/ or in the app data folder.

Linux

Save location: ~/.renpy/

Transfer Advice

• Copy the Ren'Py save folder to the same path on another PC.
• PC-to-Android transfers are unreliable; replaying is safer.

VI. Common Issues and Fixes

Exception Errors

Some route segments are still in development. If an exception appears, try using Ignore to continue, then report the bug to the developer.

Mac Launch Problems

If the app icon flashes in the Dock but does not open, right-click the app bundle, choose "Show Package Contents," and run Dawn_Chorus from Contents/MacOS.

Missing Gallery Images

Broken image files are likely a path bug in the game build. The most stable fix is to wait for an official update or restore from a backup.

Save Corruption After Update

If saves fail after updating, restore from backups in %APPDATA%\RenPy\DemoTest1-1585236210. Otherwise a fresh playthrough may be required.

VII. Translation & Language Support

The game currently supports English only. There is no official Chinese localization at this time.
